The synthetic control method allows for effect estimation in settings where a single unit (a state, country, firm, etc.) is exposed to an event or intervention. It provides a data-driven procedure to construct synthetic control units based on a weighted combination of comparison units that approximates the characteristics of the unit that is exposed to the intervention. A combination of comparison units often provides a better comparison for the unit exposed to the intervention than any comparison unit alone. authors: - family-names: Hainmueller given-names: Jens email: jhain@stanford.edu - family-names: Diamond given-names: Alexis email: adiamond@fas.harvard.edu preferred-citation: type: article title: 'Synth: An R Package for Synthetic Control Methods in Comparative Case Studies' authors: - name: Jens Hainmueller aut cre - name: Alexis Diamond aut - name: Alberto Abadie aut journal: Journal of Statistical Software year: '2011' volume: '42' issue: '13' url: https://www.jstatsoft.org/v42/i13/ start: '1' end: '17' repository: https://j-hai.r-universe.dev commit: 8e171751211b4ff3c8686933b412d05021799162 url: https://web.stanford.edu/~jhain/ date-released: '2023-06-01' contact: - family-names: Hainmueller given-names: Jens email: jhain@stanford.edu
